There’s a very specific kind of energy that happens right before a proposal… the quiet anticipation, the nerves, the feeling that something life-changing is about to unfold. It’s subtle, but it’s there. Photographing proposals like this is one of the most meaningful parts of what I do, because it holds all of that emotion in real time.
Quiet anticipation
Elliot planned this moment at Meditation Mount with intention. The light was soft, the landscape wide and peaceful, and everything about the setting allowed the moment to feel grounded and intimate. We had walked the property together and talked through his plan while he tracked his soon to be fiancé on his phone and watched her location inch closer to his. He wanted her to be surprised obviously so as her and her best friend walked up he casually sat on a bench behind them only to have her turn and see him sitting there. She was shocked and I think everyone around was smiling from ear to ear.
My experience as a photographer matters
This is where experience matters. Knowing when to step in, when to step back, and how to document everything without interrupting the moment is what allows images like these to feel natural and effortless. The goal is never to stage emotion, but to preserve it exactly as it unfolds.

Laughter, Tears, Disbelief, hearts in their eyes
Elliot and Ireland’s reaction said everything. The laughter, the disbelief, the way they held onto each other right after—it’s the kind of moment that sets the tone for everything that follows.
They’re getting married this October at Maravilla Gardens in Camarillo, and if this is how their story begins, the wedding day is going to carry that same energy: emotional, grounded, and full of meaning.
